This Study will contribute to the design in Spain of potential projects of marine wind farms to be developed in the future. The variety of effects and conflicts related to the location of these of these wind farms and the involvement and coordination of the different administrations and stakeholders concerned, make this Study to be very important for any future development on this matter.

Implementation Context
This publication provides an overview of the outcomes, results and lessons to be learnt from the numerous activities undertaken within the context of the Plan Ribera, and it is mostly based on activities and results of itself.
Aspects / Objectives
The purpose of this report is to extract general lessons which can be applied to other maritime planning contexts, in the hope of offering useful pointers on how to tackle MSP processes both at the national and the transnational level.
Main Outputs / Results
The Study establishes, through a geographical representation, a classification of three different areas that should be observed when planning future off shore wind energy farms in Spain. This output came from an intensive research carried out in the framework of the study and a comprehensive public consultation process that involved more than 86 organisations, actors and public sector representatives. The three different areas are as follow:
- Fully Eligible Areas (in green in the map below): this represents the most suitable areas for the establishment of parks of marine wind because of their reduced environmental effects and the various advantages they represent. It is emphasized within the Study that, regardless the fact that the classification of a zone as fit for the purpose of developing this type of projects, this does not exempt from the realization and approval of subsequent corresponding environmental impact studies associated with the authorization of wind energy installations at sea, where an analysis in detail of each and every one of the environmental conditions will be conducted. .
- Areas of exclusion: areas that should be excluded from the process because potential significant environmental effect or conflict with other uses of the marine environment has been identified.
- Appropriate areas with environmental constraints: the areas in which effects or conflicts detected should be analyzed in detail during the Environmental assessment procedure for each specific project, but that could be eventually suitable for this type of developments.
Transferability
Although this report draws mainly on the Strategic Study on the Offshore Wind experience, it is its stated purpose to extract general lessons that can be applied to other maritime planning contexts.
