The Spatial Economic-Benefit-Analysis tool helps to analyse economic benefits of different sectors for maritime spatial planning. The tool resulted from the BONUS BALTSPACE project and was supported by BONUS.

Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) is spreading across the globe as a new way of achieving sustainable development of the world’s seas and oceans. But what does MSP actually mean? How does it work?

Marine planning is a new approach to the management of our seas. The aim is to ensure a sustainable future for our coastal and offshore waters through managing and balancing the many activities, resources and assets in our marine environment.

Spatial planning of Estonian maritime areas is an instrument for devising long-term sea usage. Spatial planning of Estonian maritime areas addresses economic prosperity, social well-being and environmental targets at the same time and balances their respective needs.

The Plan4Blue project presents four scenarios for how our choices will affect people and the marine nature in the Gulf of Finland and the Archipelago Sea: “Unlimited growth”, “Virtual reality”, “Sustainability above all!” and “Sustainability dilemma”.

The European MSP Stakeholder Conference - Planning for the future of Europe’s Marine Space - took place on 14-15 of June in Brest, France. 

In May 2021, we held a joint webinar with the SIMAtlantic project and the Assistance Mechanism for the Atlantic Action Plan, looking at transboundary issues in the European Atlantic region and how we might develop a set of shared principles for maritime spatial planning (MSP).

On March 2021 we organised a webinar on communicating MSP where several experiences and practices were presented.
