Developments in the North Sea are ramping up fast and increasingly have cross-border impacts or are planned across borders. The growing need for offshore wind park construction will be one of the main drivers for such developments. The SEA (Strategic Envrionmental Assessment) can be used as a decision making tool during the setup of MSPs, the involvement of stakeholders and implementation of cross-border projects in specific areas.
The general objective of the SEANSE project is: “to develop a coherent (logical and well-organised) approach to Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEAs) with a focus on renewable energy in support of the development and effective implementation of MSPs”. The objective will be obtained by achieving the following goals:
- Develop a coherent approach to SEAs, with a focus on renewable energy and test it in practice through three case studies;
- Create a coherent understanding of how and when to use SEA as a support tool for decision making in MSP through knowledge transfer and information exchange between North Sea countries;
- Demonstrate the benefits of the implementation of a coherent SEA approach for the preparation of national MSPs;
- Facilitate the efficient implementation of the “Political Declaration on energy cooperation between the North Seas Countries”.
The SEANSE project has been developed under the framework of the Political Declaration on energy cooperation between the North Seas Countries.
