About the Project:

Norsaic brings transnational Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) in the North Sea to the next level. The project uses transnational cooperation as a key approach to govern the sustainable transition of the marine space.

The North Sea is intensely used and is shared by many countries and actors with different interests. There is a clear need to cope with new emerging usages and challenges such as climate change. Also, the North Sea is home to marine ecosystems and wildlife in need of protection.

Norsaic brings key stakeholders together to jointly build a healthy and sustainable North Sea. They do this by developing adaptation strategies and building capacity for governance and MSP cooperation.

Norsaic:

  • Advances crucial MSP elements such as land-sea-interactions, cumulative impacts and multi-use of space. This helps develop futureproof MSP processes and plans in the face of climate change
  • Establish innovation capacity for MSP to institutionalise next level planning.
  • Come up with joint capacity actions towards long-lasting governance in next level MSP at all levels.

Norsaic will increase the cooperation governance in MSP by jointly developing MSP adaptations, strategies and action plans. These plans will be adopted and implemented by national and local/regional authorities in the North Sea Region.
