About the Project:

Co-Evolve4BG is the follow-up to the Co-evolve project, which ended last October. The aim of this new project is to look at issues around the growth of tourism in the Mediterranean by analysing and promoting the co-evolution of human activities and natural eco-systems in touristic coastal areas. In order to protect the environment and tackle climate change, Co-Evolve4BG will promote the sustainable development of touristic activities using the principles of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) and Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP). The project works in the coastal zones of Sousse, Monastir, and Djerba island in Tunisia, as well as in Spain, Greece and Lebanon.

By the end of the project several results are expected, including an integrated analysis of the threats and advantageous factors to sustainable tourism in the regions concerned, the creation of a tool to analyse the sustainability of tourism, and the completion of seven pilot actions to develop sustainable tourism in the pilot areas. In addition, two training sessions for partners and local actors involved in the pilot actions are to be implemented. The final goal of the activities is to exploit Blue Economy potential in this region and promote Blue Growth, the long-term strategy to support sustainable growth in the marine and maritime sectors.
