This report is developed within the framework of the MARSPLAN-BS-II project that supports coherent, cross-sectoral Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) in Bulgaria and Romania, under the framework of MSP Directive 2014/89/EU, establishing a stable mechanism for work in this area. This sub-activity 1.1.1 is a synthesis report on maritime uses which aims to capitalise on the results obtained in the previous MARSPLAN-BS project.

Implementation Context:
This synthetical report was produced within the framework of the MARSPLAN BS II project following the closure of the first MARPLAN BS project.
Aspects / Objectives:
The Sub-activity 1.1.1 has the following main objectives:
- to summarise and synthesise all information and existing knowledge available for the maritime space of Bulgaria and Romania, based on a detailed study and the results of case studies from the first MARSPLAN-BS, the results and experience of project partners research, analyses and experience, all wide specific documentation and European new projects and practices;
- to identify critical planning issues, as well as data and knowledge gaps;
- to set the level of knowledge in order to frame and support subsequent implementation of the MSP process in the Black Sea basin.
Method:
This report is based on the detailed studies for complete analyses of the Romanian and Bulgarian maritime areas and the five Case Studies on major challenges developed within the first MARSPLAN-BS project.
Main Outputs / Results:
This synthesis report presents the results of the MASRPLAN BS Project, the experience gained and some recommendations for further MSP.
Transferability:
The findings and results presented in this report could be applicable to the national MSP in both countries, as well as in the other countries in the Black Sea region.
