Movies of land-sea interaction

To improve the discussion on land-sea interaction in the development phase of the Dutch North Sea Policy Agenda, several authorities and organisations have developed movies. These movies are a different method of improving the discussion. The movies have been screened on several occasions and remain accessible.

Description of practice

The Dutch national government has worked together with various provinces, municipalities and water boards to start a joint search for interaction between land and sea. This has resulted in 19 short movies created by these parties with diverse topics and messages. Partly it's about ongoing projects, such as the project Holwerd aan Zee and initiatives to address the silt problem in the Ems-Dollard. Partly it involves bringing back attention to already known major issues, such as the sand in the Oosterschelde and trash on the beach. Several movies focus on value and supply chains in transport (municipality of Emmen) and fish (town Urk).

The movies have been screened at the annual conference of the North Sea Commission held in Assen on 16 to June 18, 2015. The results are incorporated into the final Dutch North Sea Policy Agenda 2016-2021.

The movies can be found here. Click on the right side of the page to open them. They include English subtitles.

The method of developing movies is an interactive and interesting way to start the discussion about land-sea interaction, or another maritime relevant topic.
