Questions this practice may help answer

  • What data is available to support planning in England?
  • How can data be made accessible to stakeholders, to enable review / submission of new data?
  • How can interactive tools for planning be designed?

Implementation Context

To support the development of marine planning in England, the Marine Management Organisation (MMO), the responsible authority for marine planning, undertook a number of activities to facilitate MSP mechanisms across the six marine plan regions (which will total 10 marine plans). This included development of an on-line tool to present the evidence available for marine planning in England, enabling access to data and with the option to verify / add data where relevant.

The marine planning evidence base presents information on all sectors and activities submitted to support the development of marine plans, including environmental, economic and social data. Data included comes from a range of sources, including the Marine Management Organisation, delivery partners and industry. By providing access to the marine planning evidence base the MMO aims to ensure that data is robust, fit for purpose and relevant to marine planning.
