This practice is an attractive brochure which demonstrates, on one hand, the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the Baltic Sea and, on the other hand, the challenges presented by the Baltic. The last parts demonstrate various ways in which society is already acting, and can in the future continue to act to influence the future of the Baltic Sea to ensure the sustainable use of its environment.

Implementation Context
The development of this edition of the Baltic Sea presentation package was inspired by the Gulf of Finland Year 2014, in order to contribute to the intensive work on augmenting the scientific knowledge base and awareness of the Baltic Sea.

Present a brochure showing the scienctic knowledge of the Baltic Sea focussing on the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the Baltic Sea as well as the challenges presented by the Baltic and posssilbe future scenarios.
Method
- Maps and visualisations from other projects have been put together.
- Scientific evidence on specific issues has been summarized.
- The information has been rewritten and changed in a more attractive form, which is easy to read and understand for a broader public.
Main Outputs / Results
The brochure is the output presenting an attractive overview of the scientific knowledge base of the Baltic Sea in 2014.
Transferability
This practice is a good example of how to make scientific environmental knowledge attractive for a broader audience. The information is Batltic Sea specific, but the way the brochure has been built up and the language which has been used can be a source of inspiration for other research projects.

The brochure has been funded by the Nessling Foundation and the Finnish Environment Institute, which has also been the home of the presentation package and its development since 1996.
