This report identifies 80 measures to support wind and grid developers to minimise their potential environmental impacts on marine ecosystems. This work includes measures that reflect both avoidance and minimisation, including the most recent, relevant, and available information. Furthermore, ‘best practice’ measures were identified, which are implemented across multiple sites and are proven to effectively reduce negative environmental impacts.
This report was published in October 2024 by the Offshore Coalition for Energy and Nature (OCEaN). OCEaN gathers non-governmental organizations (NGOs), transmission system operators (TSOs), and wind industry groups from across Europe engaged in the sustainable development of offshore energy and grid infrastructure, ensuring it aligns with nature protection and the health of marine ecosystems. OCEaN focuses on nature-friendly offshore wind and grid development in the Baltic Sea and Northern Seas, including the Greater North Sea and Celtic Seas regions.
