North Western Mediterranean Sea designated as Particularly Sensitive Sea Area

The North Western Mediterranean Sea has been designated as a Particular Sensitive Area (PSSA) by the International Maritime Organisation and at the proposal of Spain, France, Italy and Monaco. A PSSA is an area targeted by dedicated actions from IMO because of its ecological, social or scientific importance. The region is host to large, endangered whales threatened by the intense vessel movements and ship strikes.
