The Maltese government has launched its first public call for offshore wind development, seeking to pre-qualify developers for Malta’s first floating wind farm, with an expected capacity of 280 MW to 320 MW. The tender process began on December 5 with the release of a pre-qualification questionnaire (PQQ). Developers will need to demonstrate their technical and financial capabilities to proceed to the next stage. The floating wind farm will be built in Malta’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), beyond its territorial waters.
Energy Minister Miriam Dalli emphasized that the project would not only boost energy generation but also provide environmental benefits and address Malta’s space constraints. Prime Minister Robert Abela highlighted the project’s importance in enhancing Malta’s energy diversification and renewable energy usage.
