The National Operational Programme "Research and Innovation" 2014-2020 is the instrument by which Italy contributes to the implementation of the Cohesion Policy of the European Union in favour of their most disadvantaged geographical areas. Particularly, the so called less developed regions are: Basilicata, Campania, Calabria , Apulia, Sicily and the regions in transition: Abruzzo, Molise and Sardinia.
PON R&I develops in line with the strategic objectives of the European programs Horizon 2020, and Cosme, in synergy with the National Strategy of Smart Specialisation (SNSI) and the operational programs and regional strategies for smart specialization.
The program finances projects implementing public-private partnership, in order to promote the exchange of knowledge and innovation.
The program finances projects related with twelve strategic sectors: aerospace research, agrifood, blue growth, green chemistry, cultural heritage, design and Made in Italy, energy, intelligent factory, sustainable mobility, health, smart communities, technology for living environment. Blue growth sector includes innovative technologies and materials for energy production, aquaculture, seabed mining, blue biotechnologies but also monitoring and security control systems for navigation.
The first call for proposal is open between 27th July and 9 November 2017.
Enterprises (SME and large enterprises), universities, public research institutions, other public or private research institutions, and public administrations.
Maximum project length is 30 months.
For this first call the project eligible costs must be in the range between 3 and 10 M€.
Maximum of 50% of eligible costs are financed by the program (see call for proposal for details). Al least the 20% of eligible costs are to be covered by universities or public research centres. At least 80% of the activities (cost based) must be carried out in Italian less developed regions or in regions in transition.
