The Advanced Master in Sustainable Blue Growth is jointly organized by the University of Trieste and the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics - OGS. The Master is addressed to researchers, scientists and managers. The aim of the Master is to support the creation of stable and attractive career pathways and highly skilled talents that will be needed to support expanding marine and maritime sectors. The focus of the Master is on strengthening professional skills and enhancing competencies in fields related to the blue economy.
The Master is articulated in the following sessions:
- E-learning session: online training - from January 2022;
- 3 intensive sessions of 15 days each (March, June, September 2022) in Trieste [if online, 3 weeks, part time];
- Traineeship and discussion of the final project work.

It involves all partners of the Knowledge Flows in Marine Spatial Planning ERASMUS+ project. The course explores the complex interrelationships between coastal and marine natural resources and humans and communities. The focus of this course will be to critically examine the extent to which co-management and other alternative community-based strategies provide a viable approach to marine management. Studies of such efforts from around the world, in different social and cultural contexts, will be critically examined to determine costs and benefits, the opportunities for and barriers to their implementation, and the conditions necessary for the development for sustainable, community-based coastal management systems.

Elective Course
The class addresses the issues, challenges and opportunities related to the management of coastal and marine resources through a focus on the design, implementation and evaluation of marine protected areas. Worldwide, marine protected areas are being seen as both necessary and appropriate in addressing anthropogenic impacts resulting from human use and overuse, of the marine ecosystems, including commercial and recreational fishing, marine transportation, off-shore development related to oil and gas resources, mineral extraction and renewable energy, land-based sources of pollution, and global climate change. Students will be given the opportunity to learn about how marine protected areas managers are confronting these challenges, and develop a practical understanding of the tools managers use, and acquire some understanding of what challenges have yet to be effectively met.

Strategic Partnership for Marine Spatial Planning
The Strategic Partnership for Marine Spatial Planning (SP-MSP) is a cooperation that addresses current issues in the emerging field of marine / maritime spatial planning (MSP). The project involves partners from research and administrative organisations, as well as experts on MSP. The overall aim is to reach a common understanding and transdisciplinary approaches on a transnational level for higher education.
The project wants to develop a common European education agenda exemplified for the north Atlantic, North Sea and Baltic Sea region. At the same time, we aim to promote transnational cooperation in MSP education.
