This workshop organised by VASAB aims to examine key challenges, emerging macroregional recommendations, and the role of shared planning practices in driving meaningful change—ranging from local initiatives to national strategies, with the goal of achieving sea basin–scale impact.
The session will begin with an overview of current challenges, drawing on insights from the BalticSea2Land project and reflecting national, regional, and local perspectives from Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Germany. This will be followed by a presentation of the latest developments in macroregional recommendations, including the ongoing revision of HELCOM Recommendation 24/10R on the implementation of integrated coastal management and maritime spatial planning in the Baltic Sea; as well as the update of the VASAB Common Recommendations for Spatial Planning of the Coastal Zone in the Baltic Sea Region. The workshop will conclude with a moderated roundtable discussion featuring experts who will reflect on these developments and their wider implications.
