Effective governance is fundamental to successful Marine Spatial Planning (MSP), yet it remains one of the most challenging dimensions to assess. Because governance is inherently complex, difficult to quantify, and not easily translated into spatial data, it is often left out of geographic information systems or treated merely as a descriptive add-on.
This 2nd webinar of the TEG webinar series, presented by Marta Ballesteros, will explore how governance can be systematically operationalized to support the monitoring, reviewing and improving of marine spatial plans. The ReMAP Governance module (MSP-GOV) assesses the effectiveness of the governance system, focusing on how coordination influences plan implementation. The coordination index generates actionable peformance insights,identifies critical and priority intervention areas, and facilitates advances in operational coordination, including at the trasnational level. The session will also outline forthcoming methodological developments to include other key governance dimensions (e.g. participation).
