The Mediterranean Biodiversity Protection Community and the Interreg Euro-MED Academy is organising the learning programme “Ecosystem-Based Management (EBM) and Marine Spatial Planning (MSP)” from 19 April 2022 to 22 May 2022. This programme is endorsed by the IOC UNESCO UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
The Mediterranean basin faces a number of human pressures that threaten marine and coastal ecosystems and biodiversity. These pressures arise from several sectors such as maritime traffic, fishing, industry, and tourism. Ecosystem-based management is considered the best practice to effectively deal with these threats since this approach considers the different stakeholders and factors affecting ecosystems and the mechanisms involved, in order to find solutions.
You should attend this learning program if you are:
- a policymaker at a regional or local level who wants to adopt best practices and new approaches,
- a marine protected area manager or a stakeholder involved in marine activities,
- a researcher who wants to learn about current tools to deal with biodiversity protection using an ecosystem-based management approach, or,
- a Mediterranean community stakeholder who wants to understand ecosystem-based management approaches and marine spatial planning.
By attending this program, you will experience a unique learning experience by interacting with many actors involved in marine spatial planning management and experts from the scientific community across the Mediterranean. Furthermore, each module has been designed by experts from the Biodiversity Protection Community and as such addresses the topics from an insider’s perspective.
The contribution of researchers and practitioners involved in Mediterranean projects dealing with an ecosystem-based approach presents an excellent opportunity to engage with them by interacting and asking questions. An added value of this learning program is its focus on real cases in addition to an active learning experience.
