Integrated offshore planning workshop

This two-day workshop is organised by Wind Europe and Renewable Grid Initiative and aims to support the coordination between wind developers, technology suppliers, transmission system operators (TSOs), and maritime spatial planners in order to achieve the objective of offshore wind developments.

Day 2 of the meeting aims to break down silos between offshore energy planning, MSP, and environmental protection, addressing the key dilemma:

How can we meet ambitious offshore wind targets while optimising grid design, improving maritime spatial planning at the sea basin level, and reducing environmental and social impacts?

The event will gather modellers, researchers, and planning experts from the fields of energy generation, grid infrastructure, and nature conservation. They will explore how spatial, environmental, and technical planning can be better aligned—particularly across entire sea basins.

Through three roundtable sessions, participants will:

  • Share best practices and tools like sensitivity maps and system/conservation models.
  • Explore ways to integrate these tools.
  • Discuss strategies for site selection, planning timelines, and cross-border cooperation.

A final, interactive fourth session will collect input for the next Offshore Network Development Plan (ONDP) and the upcoming EU Grid Package, aiming to generate actionable insights for future offshore and grid planning.
