Low Trophic Aquaculture in Samsø South OWF

Introduction

This multi-use is currently being developed by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in the framework of the ULTFARMS project and aims to develop aquaculture activities within offshore wind farms. The pilot is located in the Samsø South offshore wind farm which comprises of 9 turbines and is operated by The Wind Estate.

The objectives of the pilot are to develop the activity with a commercial farmer to evaluate the business case for production of commercially viable low trophic aquaculture species in an offshore wind area. Therefore, the project will focus on the commercial aspects and operational cost of such multi-use. 

Regulatory framework

As the wind park operator has applied for an expansion license, this pilot assesses the steps of multi-use in the planning stages.
