Introduction
This multi-use is currently being developed by FuE-Zentrum FH Kiel GmbH in the framework of the ULTFARMS project and aims to develop seaweed cultivation in offshore wind farms. The pilot is located in the FINO2 Platform, 33 kilometres north of the island of Rügen in the border triangle between Germany-Denmark-Sweden.
The objectives of the pilot are to optimise seaweed cultivation, focusing on the green algae Ulva lactuca (sea salad), based on the existing platform infrastructure which presents similar characteristics to offshore wind farm turbines in adjacent areas.
